Sloan Mustard Swing Dress - Chic Style Boutique

One of the hardest things about blogging has to be finding new and interesting locations to shoot. I live in Norfolk, which in itself is an area known for its beautiful natural landscape, but I tend to try to keep my shoots local, which includes Gorleston and Great Yarmouth! Having exhausted most of the local hot spots, we took a trip down to the site of the old town wall, which ended up being a beautiful backdrop for the Sloan Dress from Chic Style Boutique by Lindy Bop.

Great Yarmouth town has one of the best preserved and most complete Medieval town walls in England, dating from 28 September 1261 when King Henry III granted Yarmouth the right to enclose the town with a wall and a ditch to protect them from pirates and ensure taxes could be collected. As a Scheduled Ancient Monument, large sections of these walls and eleven towers still survive today.

As I have mentioned so many times before, the colour pallet that I am used to is fairly muted. I stick to black, red, navy, dark green and other such colours. Brights like pink, baby blue, yellow etc do not suit my dark hair and ghostly complexion. So I was not sure how I would get on with Mustard? Turns out, it is probably my new favourite colour!

Colour wise, this dress is a dream. The mix of mustard and black is just beautiful and really makes this dress a multi seasonal item, something which I am a massive fan of. However, I have to say that fit wise, I am really disappointed.

I bought this dress in a Size 8, which on the Size chart measures 31.9in in the bust. I am a 35 inch bust and had no issues, so I would suggest that there is a decent amount of give here. The waist comes in at 26.8 and I am a 26.5inch waist. I had no issues here, so the waist measurement seems spot on to me. The issue I had however, was with the fit around the front of the dress.

As you can see from the above image, the area around my bra strap gapes massively. The fit here is so poor that it renders the dress pretty much unwearable, as you can constantly see my bra straps. I attempted to wear the dress without a bra, but it made the whole top area of the dress far too exposed and looked pretty daft. The lack of fit on this part of the dress meant that the sleeves just kept falling down. It fits perfectly everywhere else, so this issue around the top is very strange indeed.

On the image from the Lindy Bop model, you can clearly see her armpit on the left hand side, which I am not entirely sure is normal for a dress with sleeves? It doesn't state on the listing that it can be worn 'off the shoulder' (as this would provide a bit more rationale as to the fit?) so I honestly don't know that is going on here? This model is almost wearing it off the shoulder, which is really strange and when you look closely, you can see that it doesn't fit her.

Needless to say, this is a beautiful dress, let down by a poor fit, which is sadly a trend I am seeing more and more of with Lindy Bop. Of my recent items from Lindy Bop, only 80% of it fit correctly. The other 20% should have fit me, according to the size chart, but for some reason had really strange issues such as the above. This is a huge shame as Lindy Bop provide lovely, affordable styles, but I don't think I am alone in wishing that they would ensure that the fit of their items is spot on, never mind the sizing.

I don't want to give up on Lindy Bop completely just yet, as some of the items I have received from them recently have been perfect, but I do hope that they sort out these niggles!

Thursday Twinning - At the Beach with Rosie Leigh

I moved to Great Yarmouth 5 years ago. At the time of moving, I couldn't image living anywhere worse. Having lived in a (almost) city all of my life and then moving to within a 20 minute train ride of London, the quiet coastal villages surrounding Great Yarmouth did not appeal to me, at all. 5 years later, my Husband and I now live in Gorleston-on-Sea in our first home. This means that on a Thursday night, we can pop in the car and within 5 minutes we are on the beach, which I consider makes me a very lucky girl indeed. So. with this in mind, we popped down to the promenade for a stroll and I took the opportunity to take the Rosie Leigh Twin Set by Lindy Bop which I got from Chic Style Boutique for a spin.

I love this twin set and there are multiple reasons for this. My top reason is the fact that it is super comfy. The pedal pushers are made of a lightweight stretch cotton and are a little on the loose side, so they don't suffocate you like some capris. Plus, bending down doesn't require you to have 10 years experience practicing Yoga. The bolero is also really lightweight and stretchy, making for an overall super comfy outfit.

I love the flower detailing on the bolero, which follows through onto the bottom of the trousers, tying both pieces of the set together really nicely. The embroidered flowers have red and yellow accents in there too, making this outfit quite versatile in terms of other colours to which it could be paired.

In terms of fit, this was spot on for me. I am wearing a UK Size 8. The bust size of the jacket is listed as 35 inches, which is spot on for my measurements. Unlike some other garments from Lindy Bop, there is plenty of room in the bust and the jacket was not restricting at all. The trousers came in at 26.4 inches in the waist. I am 26.5 inches and I would say that the trousers were by no means tight, so there is clearly a bit of give on this measurement. This is welcomed though, as aforementioned, skin tight capris are not always practical!

I paired the twin set with the Rose & Heart Print T-Shirt as the pattern on it was pretty much identical to that on the twin set and went really nicely with it. As you can see from the pictures though, this top comes up quite big!

The T-Shirt comes in range sizing, so 8-10, 10-12 and so on and so forth. I generally find this unhelpful, unless you are in between sizes. I am a solid Size 8. I am not a Size 10. So when outfits are listed as Size 8-10, you have to be somewhere in the middle I find to ensure a good fit; it's a bit of a gamble. The sizing for this Size 8-10 T-Shirt is listed as 35.8 inches in the bust. I am a 35 inch bust and this was really baggy around my chest, so I would suggest this comes up bigger than the listed size. Also, for some inexplicable reason, the shirt is very long! It was more like wearing a nightie than a T-Shirt? It came past my hips and when tucked into the trousers, it basically reached my crotch! The description says that it is a 'Fitted t-shirt' but I did not find this to be the case, at all. It does however list that the t-shirt is hip length, so there is no deception there, it just doesn't make much sense to me?

Most vintage style fashions require tops to be tucked into either a skirt, shorts or trousers, so I don't think this long line top is particularly suited to that purpose. It would be fine under a skirt, but it is not great for tucking into trousers or shorts.

Overall, I adore this twin set. It is comfortable, lightweight, fun and a lovely outfit for summer. I felt super cute in it and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for something a bit different!

Victorian Garden with Vera

This weekend I took a trip with my Husband, Sister and her Boyfriend to possibly the most beautiful garden I have ever been so lucky to visit. We took a picnic to the Plantation Garden in Norwich, a 19th century garden built in 1856 by Henry Trevor. The weather was stunning and the setting was beautiful, so it would have been wrong to not take some photos! Especially as I was wearing the new Lindy Bop Vera Swing skirt, which I got from Chic Style Boutique.

If you are a geek like me, you will care just as much about the details of this beautiful Victorian garden as my outfit, so here is the low-down on this stunning place. The Plantation Garden is a Grade 2 listed English heritage registered garden in the heart of Norwich. The garden covers nearly 3 acres and its features include a Gothic fountain, flower beds, lawns, an Italianate terrace, 'Medieval' wall, summer house, woodland walkways and a rustic bridge. It is an idiosyncratic garden, a glimpse into a bygone age and a haven of peace and tranquility...then we turned up with 4 bottles of wine!

I was going to wear the Lindy Bop Rosie Leigh twin set which I got in a recent haul from Chic Style Boutique, but I opted for the Vera skirt instead, for two reasons. Reason number one - it was HOT AF. I don't know how hot it was exactly on Saturday, but it was far too hot for trews. Reason number two, was that my Husband said it made me look like a Matador! Vera it was!

I paired the Vera swing skirt with my Deadly Dames Voodoo Vixen Top from Pinup Girl Clothing and bamboo bangles from Lady Luck's Boutique.

I took a bit of a gamble with this skirt, as the colour pallet is not quite as muted as I am used to! I try to avoid brights if I can, because they tend to wash out my already pale complexion. However, when paired with a black top, this skirt exudes just the right pop of colour, without looking like summer has thrown up all over me!

In terms of quality (something which is always an unknown with Lindy Bop) it is perfect. The skirt is fully lined and the zip and seams feel secure, which, for £25 is good news! This skirt does zip to the side though, something my Husband kindly pointed out to me after we had taken all the photos with the seam running right down the front of the skirt!

Fit wise, the skirt is pretty spot on. The skirt is listed as coming in at 25.6 in and I have a 26.5 in waist, so there is clearly a bit of give there. I tend to find that waist measurements from Lindy Bop are generous, while bust measurements can be on the tight side. The length was also perfect for me; something which can be tricky as I am on the short side at 5ft 2".

Overall, this is a great skirt for a range of purposes - work, play and just general errand running. It is super comfy, good quality, the fit is good and the colour and pattern detailing is really unusual. I would definitely recommend Vera and Chic Style Boutique, who sent the skirt out to me super quickly!

I have more items from my recent Chic Style Boutique haul to review, so do keep your eyes peeled for those coming soon!!
